Its performance is slow, and it took about a week to catalog approximately 80,000 photos on an external 3 TB hard drive. I have no problems running Lightroom 6.14 on my system, but ON1 Photo RAW 2018 is buggy, glitchy, and frustrating.

While I agree that the application has a lot of potential, it's not ready for prime time yet, at least not on my system, a 2012 Mac Mini running Mac OS Sierra 10.12.6 with 16 GB RAM. I bought ON1 Photo RAW 2017 and used it for over a year, upgrading to the 2018 version when it was released. Does On1 RAW have this type of capability as well? With LR, I can use them to process the image.

Does On1 RAW allow external plugins? For example, I have other post processing software and I want to use. I have no instability problems in WIndows or OSX. I think many of the complaints about on are from those who only sniffed at the free trial without learning the rules and expected instant mastery of what is a very complex program that had to find other ways to do things that Adobe probably has patented. Supposedly it has its version of layers but since I use it as a plugin from PS I don't use that feature. The features I find most useful (I use On1 Raw only a plugin to Photoshop) is an improved masking bug and the ability to use (or try to use) luminance masks within the filters. Rather than do an advertisement for them I recommend you watch some instructional videos on their website.

The 2018 version is much more full featured. I think the current version of ON1 has many more features that make it more desirable than Lightroom but to each her own. If you are up for it On1 can replace Lightroom completely with its own DAM but how you would convert existing LR DAM is up to you to research.
